Anyone who has a passion for and has followed brass music in the last fifty years will be aware of the special sound and sublime musicality of the playing of Trevor Bremner.
Trevor is in fact the cornetist like no other. Whether playing a beautiful slow melody with supreme sensitivity or technically demanding show piece Trevor always delivers with a rare skill that demonstrated total mastery of the instrument.
Recently recognised by Brass Bands New Zealand for sixty five years service Trevor has many significant achievements. He has won the New Zealand Open Cornet Championship 11 times and been New Zealand Champions of Champions on 3 occasions.
Twice he has won the Australian Cornet Championship and once the Australia Campion of Champions. Three times the Errol Mason Brass Musician of the Year and a winner of the En Keller Memorial Award in Australia. In addition he has been placed 2nd and 3rd in the British Open.
In 1959 Trevor was the principal cornet in the first New Zealand National Youth Band. Subsequently he represented New Zealand in the 1962, 1965 and 1985 National Bands of New Zealand. He has also served as leader of the Woolston Brass Band and the New Zealand Army Band.
Trevor has had considerable success as a teacher and conductor. For a number of years he conducted New Plymouth Brass achieving three national B grade titles. In addition Trevor has always been active and supportive of all local musical activities.
In 2000 Trevor was awarded the MNZM for services to music and the community.
